Aldea Langre

A residential project born from a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Cantabrian architecture and its close relationship with the landscape.

Located in Langre, Ribamontán al Mar, the project spans 7,329 m² and comprises 24 villas. It is integrated into a landscape defined by the Cantabrian Sea, open meadows, dramatic cliffs and the region’s rural architectural heritage. The proposal reinterprets the scale and character of the traditional village, bringing together a collection of homes connected by landscaped green spaces, pedestrian pathways and shared communal areas.

The architectural concept is rooted in the four elements: water, earth, air and fire, understood as expressions of the landscape and the experience of living: the sea, the land and its natural materials, the Atlantic climate, and the home as a place of gathering.

The architecture draws inspiration from the traditional casa montañesa and cabaña pasiega, reinterpreting defining features such as the solana (a traditional sun terrace), covered verandas, porches, pitched roofs and natural materials through a contemporary lens.

Based on the concept of Casa Llana, the typical home is organised around a generous open-plan living area that brings together the kitchen, dining room and lounge, with direct connections to outdoor porches and gardens. Double-height spaces and multifunctional areas enhance the sense of openness and flexibility, while different house typologies allow each home to respond to the specific characteristics of its plot and to different ways of living.

The project also incorporates shared leisure and recreational facilities, including a swimming pool, sports and activity areas, a traditional bowling alley and landscaped gardens. These communal spaces strengthen the sense of community and revive the social dimension that has traditionally defined village life.

Aldea Langre proposes a contemporary way of living deeply rooted in its surroundings: a human-scaled architecture that blends seamlessly into the landscape and celebrates the cultural identity of Cantabria.
