METT Barcelona
Gran Hotel La Florida is reborn through a comprehensive renovation that renovates its image and aligns it with the standards of METT Barcelona, while preserving the historic essence that has made it one of the city’s most iconic hotels.
The project, developed by CMV Architects in collaboration with Grup Atom and Sunset Hospitality Group, undertakes a global transformation combining restoration, interior modernization and functional improvements.
The intervention is based on a clear premise: to preserve the building’s classical character while introducing a contemporary language capable of enhancing its legacy. Original elements such as wooden floors, Bolivar door handles and mouldings in the suspended ceilings have been maintained and integrated into a cohesive and elegant proposal that balances tradition and modernity.
On the ground floor, the layout has been partially reorganised to optimise the restaurant’s operations and introduce a new bar, strengthening the gastronomic offer and the guest experience. Public areas have been fully refurbished, redefining the lobby and updating the courtyard lounge. Particularly noteworthy is the Florida Lounge by Lladró, where the brand showcases its distinctive aesthetic language, bringing identity and sophistication to the heart of the hotel.
Vertical circulation has been improved with a new staircase, the only significant structural intervention, which connects the ground floor with the basement and facilitates access to the indoor pool and spa. At basement level, part of the space has been renovated to enhance connectivity and fully upgrade the wellness area, partially designed by Kokai Estudio. The spa now includes massage rooms, a chill-out area and a gym, adapted to Valmont’s aesthetic and conceived as a contemporary wellness retreat.
The dining offer has also been transformed. The restaurants La Vermutería and Albarada, redesigned by Astet Studio, incorporate a richer colour palette and a strong artistic character, featuring pieces by Santa & Cole and Lladró that reinforce the aesthetic narrative of each space.
Guestrooms represent one of the project’s main focal points. A comprehensive renovation of installations, finishes and furniture has been carried out, generally preserving the existing layout while optimising the suites to enhance comfort. Kokai Studio developed the pilot room that establishes the concept extended throughout the hotel, elevating the spaces to meet current international luxury standards.
Externally, the intervention revitalises terraces and gardens, integrating them into a contemporary proposal in harmony with Barcelona’s landscape. The terraces have been upgraded and the outdoor bar enhanced as a new meeting point, surrounded by native vegetation and furnished with Kettal pieces, as well as Iaso umbrellas and pergolas.
Beyond the material update, the project has placed special emphasis on accessibility, circulation, upgraded installations and sustainability. The result is a hotel that reinforces its historic identity through a precise and respectful intervention, while delivering a coherent contemporary luxury experience across all its spaces.
