The old Navas market, a building from the 1980s, has been transformed into a 75-room hotel, spread over seven floors and two basements, with a total surface area of 3,239 m². Some of the most significant signage from the original project has been salvaged and integrated into parts of the building, and traces of the vaulted structure of the old market have been left, especially in the rear courtyard.
The new main façade, facing the Eixample district, is clad in Equitone fibre cement panels. Its design plays with vertical rhythms marked by elongated windows and black joinery, which are inserted between exposed edge panels and steel sheet finishes. On the mezzanine floor, a double-height space with a curtain wall brings lightness and light to the interior.
The interior façade, much simpler, maintains the coherence of the language with openings also framed in black.
The interiors follow a sober and functional line. The rooms include wood-panelled bathrooms, simple frames and careful details in the carpentry.
easyHotel La Sagrera is an exercise in urban transformation that respects the memory of the place and proposes a clear, practical architecture that is well integrated into its surroundings.
